Nine Dragon Heads is an international group of environmentally concerned artists brought together by Korean curator Park, Byoung-Uk. We travel to different regions making
work along the way and in preparation for an exhibition at the trips conclusion. More recently we have been tracing the route which links Korea to the West ie the Silk Road.
This part of the route went from Tashkent to the Aral Sea, Uzbekistan and then onto Tblisi, Georgia.
The Aral Sea is an example of an environmental disaster. A 'ship graveyard' now lies 30 km from where the seashore and fishing industry used to be and the poisoned sea,
when we finally reached it, killed even locusts.
My drawing expressed the shift from seeing such fecundity in the women's traditional embroidery and the sterility of the dead Aral Sea.
