Art Action: "The Three Sisters" sculpture,
Scenic Railway, Katoomba 2010
Photos of tourists abusing aboriginal imagery
I spent a day watching busloads of foreign tourists and locals having their photos taken with this set of sculptures supposedly representing the story of "The Three Sisters".
As a sculptor I read the barbie shaped bodies of the women, the ground level placement and their open arms as visual permission/invitation to tourists to a grope. And take these images back to their home countries, telling everyone how we treated out indigenous peoples.
